Cory Cardinal: Riding The Hurricane, Fighting With Scalps

CC1FPHe is a familiar face around the Mount Royal University, but there is more behind the easy-going demeanour of the Student’s Association of MRU’s Native Student Centre’s Cory Cardinal. A life of experiences ranging from ranching and riding bulls to gangs fights in downtown Calgary, to finding his own place at the University, gives Cory a unique perspective while working to encourage young Aboriginal youth in their pursuits of a post-secondary education.

The Power of Perseverance: An Olympian’s Journey

AriMugshot2FPAri Taub knows all about losses. Named to the Olympic Wrestling Team in 1992, he lost his spot in a challenge match. It would take Ari another 16 years to climb his way back to the Olympics.  Now, Ari wants to teach the lessons he learned through sport, like perseverance, through Hard Knocks Fighting Championship.

Nora's Legacy

DSC_0274fpRaised a Muslim, Nora Shahab became a Christian after her parent’s divorce. At 23 years old, she is setting out on a new journey to become a full-time Christian missionary with her newly-named dance crew LegacyOne. The journey may be one of uncertainty but it is filled with passion for the expressive arts of dance and spoken word, hope for today’s youth, and love for God.
